1. What is Vietnam business visa? How long it is good for?
Vietnam Business visa is a short-term visa to Vietnam, issued to the foreigners who will be working with/for a company in Vietnam, attending a meeting/negotiation, or signing contracts, and do not have a valid working visa or temporary residence card.
Is categorized as DN1 and DN2 visa (formally DN), of which:
- DN1 visa – to be granted to foreigners who work with other businesses and organizations with legal status in accordance with the laws of Vietnam.
- DN2 visa – to be granted to foreigners who come to Vietnam to offer services, establish a commercial presence or perform other activities under international treaties to which Vietnam is a member.
While people with Vietnam tourist visas are not permitted to work in Vietnam, those with a business visa are allowed to take a leisure trip during their business in Vietnam.
Before Covid, a visa is available in:
- 1-month single/multiple entry
- 3-month single/multiple entry, and
- 1-year multiple entry (for US Passport holders only).
But at the moment, a business visa for Vietnam is good for 3 months at maximum.
2. What are requirements?
Except for citizens of Vietnam visa-free Countries, all foreigners must apply for a business visa to do business in Vietnam.
In order to get a business visa for Vietnam, you must meet the following requirements:
- You are not prohibited from Vietnam entry.
- You must have a sponsor company in Vietnam (the company you will work for after entering Vietnam) that is willing to sponsor your visa and travel. It must be a real company, not a service one, as you may encounter certain hardships if using a service/ghost one.
- Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from your date of entry into Vietnam and have at least 02 blank pages.
- Your portrait photos (4*6cm, or 2*2 inch, white background, in paper or .jpg, depending on your way of Vietnam business visa application).
3. How to get ?
You can apply for a business visa to Vietnam in one of the following ways:
- At a Vietnam Embassy or Consulate in your country
- On arrival, at one of 8 international airports of Vietnam,
- Online, through the Vietnam e-visa portal.
Before exploring in detail, please take a quick look at these 3 ways:
Now, let’s figure out each with us.
3.1 Getting a business visa at Vietnam embassy/consulate
In case you want to get a visa this way, you have to visit the nearest Vietnam embassy/consulate. You can find the list of Vietnamese embassies and consulates worldwide here.
The application process for a Vietnam business embassy visa will be as follows:
👉Step 1: Get the visa sponsorship letter
Your sponsor company in Vietnam will apply for your visa sponsorship letter (also known as visa invitation letter, business visa approval letter, or Vietnam entry permit) with the Vietnam Immigration Department. The documents are:
- Photo of foreigner’s passport
- Certified copy of Business registration of the sponsor company
- Form NA2 (to be completed online here https://www.xuatnhapcanh.gov.vn/huong-dan-dvbl-xdnc)
- Form NA16
- other documents as required.
This process will take around 5 – 7 working days since receipt of full required documents by the Immigration.
If the application is approved, the Immigration Department of Vietnam will
- issue the sponsorship letter to your sponsor, and also
- fax a letter for your business visa stamping to the registered office of Vietnam embassy/consulate.
👉Step 2: Prepare documents for business visa stamping
Your sponsor will send the invitation letter obtained in step 1 to you. And you will print it out, and put it with other required documents, including but not limited to:
- a completed Vietnam visa application form,
- your original passport,
- your photos, and
- visa fee which depends on the embassy/consulate.
👉Step 3: Get visa stamp
You submit your prepared documents to the registered Embassy or Consulate of Vietnam by mail or in person, depending on its regulations.
Once your Visa has been approved, it will be affixed on your passport and you can use it to enter the country.
3.2 Getting a Vietnam business visa on arrival
The process to get a business visa on arrival is almost the same as getting an embassy business visa. However, instead of getting the visa stamped by the Vietnam embassy/consulate, you will get it stamped at Vietnam airport upon your arrival then.
Its process is as follows:
👉Step 1: Get the business visa sponsorship letter
Your sponsor in Vietnam will get the business visa sponsorship letter from the Vietnam Immigration Department and send it to you.
👉Step 2: Prepare documents for visa stamping
You will need to prepare:
- print of your visa sponsorship letter,
- a completed Vietnam visa application form,
- your original passport, and
- your photos, and
- visa stamping fee, which is:
- US $25 for a single entry visa, or
- US $50 for a multiple entry visa.
👉Step 3: Get visa stamped
Upon arrival at Vietnam airport, you will need to show the documents mentioned above to the Vietnam Immigration Officer to get visa stamped onto your passport and then complete the entry procedure to enter Vietnam and do your work.
3.3 Getting a Vietnam business evisa
Citizens of 80 countries can get a business evisa. Check full list here.
However, a business e-visa is good for 30 days in single entry only, and it cannot be extended without leaving Vietnam. As such, in case you wish to stay in Vietnam longer than 30 days, you are highly recommended to get the business visa through one of the other two options.
You can apply for a e visa for Vietnam personally or the inviting organization/company can apply on your behalf.
👉Applying for a evisa personally
To apply for a Visa online, as you are completing the online application form at the Vietnam Immigration Portal, simply select “Business Activities” as the purpose of your travel on the dropdown menu.
Then, upload a picture of yourself, a scanned picture of your passport, pay the visa fee, and wait for the visa to be processed.
If your e-visa application is approved, you can download the visa and present it at the entry checkpoint of Vietnam.
👉The inviting organization/company applies for your eVisa
If the company you will join is going to apply for your Visa, they have to register on the Vietnam Immigration Portal, where they will be provided with an account and an electronic signature.
They have to upload a scanned picture of your passport, your pictures, and pay the visa fee.
If their application is approved, they have to send you the registration code so that you can print out your evisa and enter Vietnam.
This evisa process often takes you or your sponsor 3 working days to complete, or longer depending on the volume of visa applications pending for processing.
4. Can I extend a Vietnam Business Visa?
The embassy visa and visa on arrival can be extended in Vietnam while the e-visa cannot.
5. Vietnam Business Visa Price
The fee for a Visa depends on the method through which you’re applying:
- If you are applying for a Visa On Arrival:
- Single-entry
- Multiple-entry
- Single-entry
