In the first two months of the year, 217 international visitors were denied entry into Vietnam due to invalid documents, which is a quarter of the number in 2023, putting pressure on airports and airlines.
According to the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam, there were 506 international visitors denied entry in 2020, 404 in 2022, and 886 in 2023. In just the first two months of 2024, there were 217 cases. The reasons include lack of visa or fake passports.
The increase in the number of visitors being denied entry causes losses for airlines as they have to return passengers to their departure points, creating pressure on airports - where passengers are managed while waiting for their return flights - and posing risks to airport and aircraft security.
To minimize the number of visitors being denied entry, the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam requires airlines operating regular international flights to Vietnam to strictly control passengers' travel documents.

Airlines are required to update Vietnam's and international regulations on immigration, transit, and related passenger matters, as well as to disseminate information about document requirements for air travel.
The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam also suggests that authorities and document control departments of the countries where flights originate rigorously check passengers' documents to minimize cases of insufficient documentation for entry or transit through Vietnam.
According to the Standing Committee of the National Civil Aviation Security Risk Assessment Council, the use of fake passports or incidents related to travel documents on international flights has been increasing globally since 2022.
